High Risk Sex Age 20-29 Years

Until the end of March the number of cases of HIV / AIDS in Mimika reached 2303 cases, consisting of as many as 1753 cases of HIV and AIDS as much as 550 cases.

"Men who are infected are mostly customers of Commercial Sex Workers (CSWs) and 20-29 years age group most vulnerable to contracting HIV," explains Reynolds.

According to Reynolds, the findings of new HIV infections nearly 80 percent compared with the findings of AIDS cases. It indicates the risk of contracting behavior remains high.

"The average findings of HIV / AIDS cases per quarter in Mimika reach 90 to 130 new cases," he explained.

In order to suppress the rate of HIV / AIDS cases in Mimika, local KPA will install 72 condom dispensers at 15 locations in both government-owned health care units and private clinics in the town of Timika.

With the increasing availability of a condom dispenser, then the local residents easier access to condoms is regarded as one means of preventing HIV transmission during intercourse.

In addition, since the coming school year curriculum of HIV / AIDS will become a compulsory curriculum taught in local schools began elementary to high school level.
